GoPro HD Hero 2 DIY extension pole

An easy DIY GoPro extension pole

The GoPro HD Hero 2 is an invaluable tool for filming POV style shots or for putting a camera where you normally couldn’t.

Constructing a cheap, robust, telescopic extension pole increases the possibilities of where you can film.

I used the following to construct mine:

  • Outboard motor telescopic tiller extension (I picked one up from a local boat store)
  • GoPro tripod mount
  • Plastic chair tips (with a 25mm inner diameter in this case)
  • Bolt and washers for spacers if you need them
  • Araldite

Simple drill out the 2 rivets that hold the outboard adapter part of the handle and remove it. You’re left with plain aluminium tubing which in this case has a 25mm diameter. Drill a hole into the centre of the plastic chair tip and then thread the bolt through it. To this attach the GoPro tripod mount. Mix up some araldite and glue the chair tip to the end of the pole. You now have a telescopic, GoPro extension arm!
